The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) released an updated I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. Employers are required to complete a Form I-9 to verify the identity and employment authorization of each employee hired in the United States.
The new form should be used immediately. The effective date to begin using the form was May 7, 2013. Employers who fail to properly complete and retain I-9 forms are subject to civil fines of up to $1,100 perform and, in some cases, criminal penalties.
