Social media usage is commonplace in our day-to-day lives and most of us use various types of social media platforms. Social Media is fun and convenient providing quick access to and posting information, ideas, personal messages, and other content. In the United States on average the median adult uses three or more social media platforms on a daily basis.
Unfortunately, there are some bad actors who are lurking on Social Media platforms.
For example, Timehop recently disclosed a security breach that has compromised the personal data, including names and emails, of 21 million users. Of the 21 million affected users, 4.7 million users had a phone number that was attached to their account. While the information that was breached did not include financial data, private messages, direct messages, user photos, user social media content, social security numbers, or other private information, their network was compromised by a cybercriminal.
